Clarksville Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)

Our country’s food system has drastically changed over the last century.  The local food movement is trying to move us back to the way it used to be, where local farmers (usually defined by farmers within a 100 mile radius of you) provide food for their surrounding communities.  You may have heard the saying “Think globally, act locally”.  This is what it is all about.  Food that is bred to be transported thousands of miles isn’t selected for the best taste, rather, by how well it will ship.  Eating foods that are grown locally and in season helps to reduce your “carbon footprint” and is a great way to be a part of the “green revolution”.

A CSA works by selling shares of a local farm to community members.  For 26 weeks in the summer and fall, the farmer brings freshly picked produce to Clarksville Middle School on Thursdays from 4 - 6:30PM and share holders pick up their portions from a market stand display of produce.  During the winter months, the farm delivers a basket of pre-selected produce to share holder's homes or offices.

The Zahradka Farm donates a share of their proceeds to each PTA in Clarksville as a thank you for participating in the CSA. For every 15 shares sold,  the farm provides a free share of produce to both the Food on the 15th program, which helps to feed needy senior citizens in Howard County, and to  needy families in Howard County through the Neighbor to Neighbor program.
