WHAT:  Students voluntarily walk around a course during their scheduled recess time for fun, fitness and rewards.

WHEN:  Usually a 6 week session in the fall (early October - mid November) and a 6 week session after spring break.

WHERE:  Participants walk around a 1/4-mile marked course around the PRES grassy fields behind the playground.

WHO:  All PRES students, teachers/staff, parents and little siblings are encouraged to participate.

WHY:  It's a voluntary, active, healthy, social, easy to do, rewarding and fun alternative at recess time.  Students can earn bracelets and charms to celebrate completing a walking card (5 miles!) and incentives are given weekly.  Awards and recognition are given to classes and individuals with the "Top Mileage".  The Golden Sneaker award is given to the class with the "Highest Percentage of Participation".

HOW:  In order for this program to be successful and run smoothly, we will need parent volunteers at all recesses (especially K-2!) to assist with handing out the student's walking cards, marking off cards after each completed lap, monitoring the students walking around the course, and giving out charms/hand stamps/tattoos.  Please email Cathy Coleman or Diana Tsai if you are interested in volunteering for this program - you can volunteer during your child's recess time, and you can volunteer for any or all of the listed dates.  This is a great opportunity to see your child and their friends at school, and a chance to meet other parents in a fun way.  If you can't volunteer, please consider joining your child and encouraging them to Walk on Wednesdays (be sure they wear sneakers!).
