2017-2018 Board of Directors

Cindy Newman - President

This is my tenth year at PRES and my seventh year on the PRES PTA board. Yikes! Time really does fly. This is my second year as PTA President, after serving for two years as Vice President and three years as Treasurer. I am excited for the 2017-2018 school year, looking forward to working with both new and returning volunteers. We will be bringing you the usual favorite PTA programs and hopefully some new ones. I’m always open to new ideas and fresh faces!

I have a daughter in 4th grade, a son in 5th grade, and a son in 9th grade at Atholton High School (yikes again!). I am a CPA working as the controller for a local company. Volunteering for the PTA has enabled me to give back to PRES and be a part of my children's educational experience in a way that best fits my talents, strengths, and availability. In my few free moments I enjoy reading, exercising, and spending time with family and friends.

Lisa George - First Vice President

This is my sixth year as a Pointers Run parent and my fourth year serving on the PTA. My daughter is in third grade at PRES this year and my son has moved onto CMS. I grew up in Howard County public schools and am thrilled that my children will have the same experience. In addition to being a mom and volunteering in the classroom, I am a pediatric occupational therapist. I co-own a private practice serving primarily preschool and elementary school-aged children in Northwest, DC. My free time is pretty scarce and mostly dedicated to spending time with friends and family. I am looking forward to the 2017-18 school year and meeting more people in our community through this role.

This is my third year as a Pointers Run parent and second year serving on the PTA. We have 2 kids at PRES: Brandon is in 4th grade, and Skylar is in 2nd grade this year. We moved here 2 years ago from Austin, TX, when my husband got a job in the area. Our family's experience in the Pointers Run community has been amazing! When we are not off exploring Maryland and the surrounding area, I work as a hospice nurse. We are all looking forward to another great year of adventures at PRES!

The 2017-2018 year will be my second year at Pointers Run ES. This will also be my second year serving on the PTA Executive Board. I have two children that attend PRES - Trevor is in fourth grade and Sydney is in first grade. I also have a child that attends CMS. Our family recently moved to Howard County last year from Baltimore County. I am physical therapist for BCPS and when I am not working I enjoy running, cheering on my kids on the baseball field and at the pool, and reading a good book. I am looking forward to another great year!

Laura Martin - Treasurer

PRES PTA bio

This is my fifth year as a Pointers Run parent and my second serving as a PTA board member. My son, Braeden, is in 4th grade. My husband, Jason, and I are from Kansas City, Missouri, where our families still reside. We met and spent close to 10 years in Colorado before moving to Maryland 8 years ago. I currently work full time and have over 20 years Finance and Accounting experience. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, spending time with family and friends, and cheering on my son's baseball team. I am looking forward to a fun year with PRES PTA and am excited to be able to contribute to and be involved in my son's education!

 Cara Mahoney - Recording Secretary

The 2017-2018 school year will be my fourth year as a Pointers Run parent, and my first year serving on the PTA Executive Board. Although this is my first year as a board member, I have been actively involved with the PTA serving as a co-chair for both Walking Wednesday and the Kindergarten Welcome Committee. I have two children that attend PRES - Andrew is in third grade and Ryan is in first. I grew up in Howard County, and I have had the pleasure of attending Howard County schools - Stevens Forest Elementary, Oakland Mills Middle, and Oakland Mills High. When I'm not working as an Audiologist, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, traveling, reading, and doing puzzles. I am greatly looking forward to another wonderful year at PRES!

  Jessica Sokira - Delegate #1

This is my fifth year as a Pointers Run parent and fifth in service to our PTA. I have two students at Pointers that benefit from the active PTA involvement with the school. My PTA service has always been as delegate to the PTA Council of Howard County. In that role I serve as liaison between our local school PTA and the County PTA. I learn what is going on at the county level which is where policy, budget and curriculum change occurs. I advise our local PTA of county matters and ask for what our school’s stance is so that our voice can be represented on the county level. I can also relay local matters from our school that are within county jurisdiction to be addressed at the county level. Please attend our monthly school PTA meetings to learn and share what is going on with your children’s academic experience. Working together is how we can influence the experience our children have with education.

Hongling Zhou - Delegate # 2

This is my fifth year as a Pointers Run parent and my second year serving on the PTA. Before that, I served as a room parent for 3 years. I have two children at PRES. Barry is in fourth grade and McKayla is in third. I am a statistician working for a federal agency. My husband and I grew up in China and came to this country in our twenties for graduate school. We found it refreshing that parents here are very much involved in their children’s education and school activities in the form of the PTA. We appreciate what the PTA does for the PRES community and would like to contribute to this effort. I am looking forward to a productive school year with PRES PTA, and I am excited to be involved in my children's education- the American way!

Please congratulate and thank these awesome volunteers for stepping up to lead the PRES PTA in our mission to bring valuable programs that enrich our school community.
