The second grade enjoyed a fun and interactive visit on May 7^th from the Howard County Conservancy.  Tabby Fique brought the Butterfly Outreach Program to Pointers Run.  It was a wonderful compliment to the second grade’s science unit on butterflies.

The children had an opportunity to learn about several topics related to butterflies.  The butterfly’s life cycle, habitats of both caterpillars and butterflies, food (nectar and mud), predators, migration, and butterfly senses, such as compound vision, were all covered.  The children had an opportunity to volunteer to act out the life cycle of a butterfly, and to act out both the caterpillar and butterfly defenses against predators.  The children also learned how to safely observe butterflies without hurting them.  It was fun and engaging afternoon.
